Here's a fun experiment for all of my readers who don't have kids. Have you ever wondered what it's like to feed an infant? Now you can experience it for yourself! Follow along and make learning fun!
Supplies:
mashed carrots
straw
spoon
partner
Procedure:
Have your partner place the straw in his or her mouth. Place a small amount of carrots on the spoon. Using the spoon, try to push the carrots into the open end of the straw while your partner shakes his or her head vigorously while blowing forcefully through the other end.
Repeat until carrots are gone.
Wasn't that interesting, kids? Keep checking back here for more fun with science!
I'm living this life! The trick used here is not so much blowing/spitting it out as vigorous side-to-side hand-waving to indicate that we are done. If you are not prepared for it, expecting it, the loaded spoon goes careening off, hitting the floor, or the freshly-painted wall, or if you're really in good form, smacking your adjacent twin brother right in the face with it (3-point shot). And here, when we indicate done, we are DONE.

Funny that you mention carrots... carrots were the bane of my mother's existence, but not because of me. (I was a perfect child, but I digress.) My sister used to take a mouthful, then promptly turn her head and sneeze them across the wall. Personally, I think my mother should have left them there--we could have had our very own Jackson Pollack in the making.

Buahahaha! I just wanted to take the time to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog.
I do believe you forgot a step above. If your partner isn't squishing the mushed carrots, I don't believe it's a realistic simulation. The attached link is of my then 6 month old daughter eating carrots. :)
