Hi All. The Mom here.
Today I convinced my husband spend a day with his family rather than blog about it. He was not happy, saying something about you guys liking him more than we do, which is probably true, but didn’t carry a lot of weight with me. In exchange, I promised I’d write an update about Kathryn.
Kathryn is same as she ever was, just extra sparky. Actually, the neurologist calls them spikes, not sparks. The takeaway of the testing is this: It’s still Rolandic Epilepsy which is good news. The bad news is, according to the doctor, in the same time frame that most kids with Rolandic Epilepsy have between 3 and 4 spikes showing on their EEG, Kathryn has between 30 and 50. She’s starting new medicines and we hope to get the spikes under control, but the immediate prognosis is that it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
But as we all know from the 80s, spiky is cool but won’t always be around.
BTW: Monday is Brian's birthday. So keep him in your thoughts as he heads into his twilight years.
I've been keeping all of you in my thoughts.
Glad to hear it's still the "good" epilepsy, and that Kathryn's spirits are good too.
Just how old are we talking about here? Twilight years?

Good for you, the Mom. I've been reading all the updates and I've been almost as worried about the Dad as I have about Kathryn - it's a tough time for all of you right now. I hope you all have a great weekeend and I wish a very happy birthday to Brian.

The 80s/spiky comparison is a good one-- nice
Thanks for the update, good luck in navigating through this chaos, and happy birthday to The Dad! I expect he'll be seeing a few black balloons floating by soon enough.

Hi Mom, it's evident how Brian is able to keep such a healthy handle on things... He's got a level headed, keep your sense of humor and take each day at a time, kind of woman at his side. Together, you guys could rule the world!
And Brian, my husband turned 50 this year, so no bitchin' and revel in your youth!
:-)

Thank you for the update. I'm sure you had many other things on your to-do list, so it's very kind of both of you to let us know what's going on.
I hope the new medications start doing their thing extra soon. Best wishes to all of you.

Glad to hear the she's ok, hope the new meds work wonders. And I'm glad you made him spend some time with his family. Sometimes dad's need to be forced to take some time to spend with the kids.

Just when you get the girls out of diapers, Brian is heading into them... There's something that's just not fair about that scenario.
I hope this really is the worst of it for poor Kathryn! I never did like spikes, but maybe I was too young in the 80s to appreciate them any.

Happy Birthday Brian!!! 40 isn't too bad...I know...I just turned 50 in May! I never in my wildest dreams thoughtI'd be 50!!!! I owe you a b'day drink - name the date/place.

Happy Birthday Brian!!!!
The Mom- Thanks for the update. And for letting Brian play with us!!!
Glad Kathryn is home and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if it's gonna go black for a bit before the light gets stronger - at least the light is there waiting.
Still sending good thoughts and vibes and fairy dust your way.

Wow, we've been out of town, so that's a lot of updates to come home to! I'm so sorry Kathryn is still struggling with the seizures, and I really hope you guys will find something that works soon.
Happy Birthday, the Dad! I hope you at least get a good cake out of the deal. :)
